Controversy is now trailing the zoning of offices to be vied for in next month’s congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State by the outgoing State Working Committee.

The Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, issued a statement to notify members of the development.

The most contentious is the zoning of the position of the State Chairman to Ekiti West Local Government and Efon Local Government.

The three aspirants for the chairmanship position are Kehinde Odebunmi from Ekiti West, Bisi Kolawole, Efon and Tope Aluko from Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government.

With the zoning arrangement by the SWC, Aluko from Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government is not reckoned with.

However, Aluko and his supporters are still soldiering on with their campaign, just as they are kicking against the arrangement.

Former Governor Ayodele Fayose is supporting Kolawole, Senator Abiodun Olujimi is supporting Odebunmi and Senator Duro Faseyi is supporting Aluko.

Some leaders are hoping that both Odebunmi and Aluko would close ranks to tackle Kolawole, seeing as the leading candidate.

Also, moves by some chieftains of the party to come out with a consensus chairmanship candidate are being rebuffed by some leaders of the party.

Few days ago, Senator Clement Awoyelu led some people in a meeting to adopt a resolution calling for a consensus candidate.

However, some people, sensing that Fayose was behind the plot, kicked against it and added that Fayose himself too kicked against consensus candidacy when he was seeking the party’s governorship ticket in 2014.
