The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Senator representing Edo Central, Senator Clifford Odia, led other government officials to pay their last respects to the late Rear Admiral Joe Aikhomu.

Speaking at the Service of Songs held in honour of late Admiral Aikhomu at Idumebo, Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Obaseki described the late naval chief as a caring, hardworking, straightforward and honest man.

Obaseki said: “I was here four years ago with our late brother for the burial of his father. The Aikhomu family is my family and Joe was the bond.

Everybody, including friends, professional colleagues and business associates, all had the same perspective about late Joe. They say he is a caring, hardworking, straightforward and honest person. His demise was a big shock for me because we saw a week before he left Abuja.

“He has served his time and God has called him home; it’s painful but we should be consoled because he is with the Lord.”

Speaking on behalf of the Aikhomu family, Wilson Omogbale Aikhomu expressed appreciation to the governor and his entourage for finding time to attend the service of songs in honour of their late father.

He noted: “My father was a personal friend of the governor and a great supporter of Obaseki’s movement. I thank all my father’s friends and the Aikhomu family, as you all are my strength. Thank you all for your prayers and support during this trying time in our lives.”
