13 Nigerian Athletes Get $82,000 Olympic Grant

The Nigeria Olympic Committee sustained the initiative of providing Olympic training scholarships for elite Nigerian athletes, in collaboration with the Olympic Solidarity Department of the IOC and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa.

The grants were given to athletes from sports such as athletics, taekwondo, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling.

The beneficiaries of the training grants are Amusan Oluwatobiloba, Ofili Favour, Nathaniel Oghenewegba and Nathaniel Glory from athletics, while wrestlers Adekuoroye Odunayo, Adeniyi Aminat and Oborodudu Blessing were also recipients of the grant.

Others include weightlifter Adesanmi Oluwatoyin, Aruna Quadri and Olajide Omotayo from table tennis, as well as Adamu Abubakar, Otuadinma Uzoamaka and Nwosu Chinazum from taekwondo.

The grants, which were approved in 2019, saw some of the athletes receive $7,680, while others were paid $2,560 for their Olympics preparations.

The 2020 Olympics, which was scheduled to hold from July 24 to August 9, 2020, will now hold from July 23 to August 8.
