In a desperate move to retain his seat, Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Ganduje, has approved the sum of N223 million to be released to chairmen of 13 local government areas where governorship supplementary elections will hold on March 23, 2019.
The money was released to the chairmen through the Ministry of Local Government.
In a memo dated March 12, 2019 signed by Ibrahim M. Kabara, Director Local Government Inspection and Abba Ladan Kaikani, the Permanent Secretary, sent to the Branch Manager, Unity Bank PLC, Lagos/Sani Abacha Way, Kano, the branch manager was directed to release various sums of money to the affected 13 local government areas.
Kano has 44 local government areas, but the supplementary election is taking place in some parts of only 13 local government areas.
The affected local government areas are: Bichi which will get N14m, Doguwa N17m, Nasarawa N18m, Rimi Gado N16m and Gwarzo N12m.
Others are Samaila N19m, Wudil N18.5m, Dawakin Kudu N15.5m, Kabo N 24m, Dawakin Tofa N22m, Tsamwaya N17m, Kumbotso N12m and Kura N17m.
Before the supplementary election was called by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is trailing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Abba Kabir Yusuf in the results announced so far.
