Exclusive: IGP Under Pressure To Redeploy New Bayelsa Police Commissioner

Controversies over the deployment and redeployment of commissioners of police in Bayelsa State may continue as intense pressure is on the Inspector General of Police Mr. Ibrahim Idris to remove the new state Commissioner of Police Mr. Aminu Saleh.

Mr Saleh assumed office as the new state police boss, on Monday, December 17, 2018 following disagreement between political Stakeholders in the state.

There has been accusations and counter accusations from the Bayelsa State Governor Mr. Seriake Dickson, who is elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and members of the state All Progressives Congress (APC) over who sits as Commissioner of police.

The controversies have led to the deployment and redeployment of nine commissioners of police in the state within a space of 10 months.

Our correspondent gathered that the leadership of the APC in Bayelsa are uncomfortable with Mr. Saleh over his alleged warm romance with the state Governor Mr. Seriake Dickson and have accused him of acting on the orders of the governor to harrass and intimidate APC members in the state.

“We are not comfortable with a commissioner of police that Dickson is already praising. We want a neutral person as CP and in the first place we didnt understand why the former one was removed. The way this new man is romancing and carrying out the orders of the governor to traumatize and intimidate APC members in the state is unacceptable and we want him removed immediately,” the APC, who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

Continuing, the sources said “those who influenced the removal of the former CP are claiming that the man is incompetent, how? We were comfortable with him until some people had him posted out of the state for selfish reasons. We have openly declared that we are not going to work with this new police chief. He is openly romancing with the state governor and we are uncomfortable with the development. We have protested to the IGP to have him removed and not until that is done, we won’t rest”.

APC stakeholders in Bayelsa State have accused Mr Abdulkarim Dauda Chief Personal Security Officer (CPSO) to President Muhammadu Buhari of having a hand in the removal of Mr. Joseph Mukan and replacing him with Saleh for personal Interest, a claim he flatly denied to this reporter.
