The infighting in the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party in the last few days is not unconnected with jostling by party leaders and groups to be the ones to take charge of the campaign funds expected from the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abibakar, our findings have revealed.

Two groups, one led by the former governor, Ayodele Fayose and the other led by the Senate Minority Leader, Abiodun Olujimi, are up in arms against each other.

Those in Olujimi group are claiming that since she is now the most senior elected public officer, she should be made the arrowhead of whatever Atiku and the PDP want to do in the state for the campaign and its funding.

They even went ahead to say she is now the leader of the PDP not only in Ekiti but the whole of Southwest by her position.

A former State Secretary of the PDP, Tope Aluko, led a group of people who wanted to forcibly take over the State Secretariat of the party in Ado-Ekiti few days ago.

The thinking is that Fayose would only corner campaign funds for himself.

Fayose, the immediate past governor of Ekiti and who has been appointed the Southwest Zonal Coordinator of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, incurred the wrath of some party members and leaders for his alleged shabby treatment of aides, party leaders and members.

Aggrieved party faithful are accusing him of running a one-man show during his term in office and also for shortchanging delegates that went to Port Harcourt for the presidential convention of the PDP where Atiku emerged the standard bearer.

He reportedly gave delegates less than half of the money collected from presidential aspirants on their behalf.

Also, while in office, Fayose allegedly did not consult party leaders and elders on some decisions before taking them.

Meanwhile, Fayose has used his connection with the national leadership of the party to stall any move to have the current State Working Committee elected over two years ago dissolved.

The dissolution of the SWC is one of the demands of the Olujimi group.

They are accusing the committee of always doing the bidding of Fayose.

Olujimi served as Fayose’s deputy during the governor’s firsts term in office.
