Mrs Fatima Raji-Rasaki has dragged Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele before the All Progressives Congress National Appeal Panel over the conduct of the party’s National Assembly primary in Ekiti State.
Raji-Rasaki, who is the sitting senator in Ekiti Central Senatorial District, is challenging the election of Bamidele in last weekend’s primary.
She defected few months ago from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC and reportedly told some APC leaders that she was promised automatic ticket of the party before joining it.
However, most party members and leaders opposed her and demanded that a primary election be conducted to choose the party:s candidate.
It was gathered that the wife of the governor-elect, Mrs Bisi Fayemi, strongly opposed giving Raji-Rasaki automatic ticket because of the immense contributions of Bamidele and the fact that his opponent is a new member of the party.
Some APC leaders also mentioned the fact that Bamidele suffered gunshot wounds during the visit of the Dr Kayode Fayemi to the state secretariat of the APC on June 1, this year.
Raji-Rasaki was also accused of dropping the names of national leaders of the party in her bid to secure automatic ticket of the party.
The appeal panel is headed by Senator Oseriemen Osunbor.
Recall that during the primary, she scored only 3,289 votes against Bamidele’s overwhelming figure of 60,823 votes.
The Appeal Committee is expected to take a decision later today and submit its report to the National Working Committee of the party by tomorrow.
