Rumbling In PDP Over Primary Elections

All is not well within the ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State over who will be its candidates in the National and House of Assembly elections coming up next year.

Also, leaders of the party are in a dilemma on who to support for the presidential ticket of the party from among those seeking the highest office in the land.

Checks showed that despite the promise by outgoing governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, not to interfere with the process, the governor is being accused by some party leaders of not keeping his words.

For instance, in Efon Local Government Area, Fayose allegedly tried to impose the State Women Leader, Mrs Yemisi Afolabi, as the candidate for the House of Assembly seat in the area.

Efon is one of the local governments won by the PDP in the last governorship poll.

Fayose’s attempt was rebuffed by party leaders who said those who obtained nomination forms must be allowed to contest the primary election.

In Ado-Ekiti, the party is sharpy divided too, as some leaders are accusing the governor of supporting some aspirants against others.

The development led to a former chairman of the local government, Mrs Tosin Aluko, defecting to the All Progressives Congress few days ago.

As for the many presidential aspirants coming to the state to seek support, party leaders are afraid that Fayose may just decide to pick one to support without minding their feelings and possible preferences.

The party will soon start its primaries to choose candidates for the 2019 general elections.
